With her locally acclaimed 2021 debut, Don't Make Me Worry, well behind her, Lainey was unsure of where to turn next.
Though she's traditionally made rock music, she went in with an open mind when writing for her upcoming project. She started writing Country songs. Then, she started writing Pop songs. And of course, staying true to her roots, she wrote some Rock songs. This left her with a problem, or rather a fascinating puzzle.
Could she, a small independent artist, do all 3 genres?
Around this time, she attended Taylor Swift's Eras Tour. Witnessing the music industry juggernaut jump from bubble gum pop, to arena country, to whimsical folk all in one show had Lainey's mind reeling. Whether it's certified delusion or an unshakable confidence, Lainey left the Eras Tour thinking to herself, 'I could do that!'
Thus, the 3-in-1 idea was born. Lainey would perform Country, Pop, and Rock at her shows and on her upcoming EP.
Enlisting the help of her bandmates, her former theater background, and a LOT of new found free time from being laid off, Lainey created and debuted her 3-in-1 Variety Show on September 26, 2024 at the historic Austin venue, Hole in the Wall. Complete with costume changes, skits, backup dancers, and a little magic, Lainey's Variety Show is a live music experience unlike any other in the Austin music scene and beyond.
With a very successful Halloween themed follow up at Hotel Vegas on October 17, 2024, a few more in the works for December and January, and the release of the accompanying multi-genre EP this spring, Lainey's 3-in-1 phenomenon is just getting started.
